Senior Solutions Engineer, APAC (AUS)
DroneDeploy
Sydney, NSW, Australia
Role Overview
We’re expanding our Solutions Engineering presence in APAC and looking for a senior technical seller who can own the region end-to-end — from first discovery through successful deployment and expansion. You’ll be the primary technical partner for our APAC Sales and Customer Experience teams, reporting into APAC sales leadership and working closely with global Solutions Engineering leadership. You’ll design and run high-quality evaluations, translate complex construction and field workflows into DroneDeploy solutions, and build repeatable playbooks that help AEs, CSMs, and partners win and grow accounts without heavy hand-holding.
This is a high-autonomy, high-visibility P4 role. You’ll often be the only or primary Solutions Engineer in-region, expected to prioritize ruthlessly, operate with limited oversight across time zones, and proactively close gaps in coverage, process, and enablement so APAC can scale efficiently. You’ll lean on your construction domain expertise to guide customers through reality capture strategy, adoption, and expansion — especially across high-accuracy workflows and products like Automation, Inspection AI, and Survey.
Work Environment
- Work Model: Hybrid, 3 days per week in the office to work in our North Sydney office and connect with our customer base.
- Business Travel: Up to ~50% travel across Australia, APAC, and internationally for customer meetings, site visits, industry events, and internal sessions.
- AI tooling: Regular use of AI tools (e.g., Glean, internal copilots, generative AI) for research, prep, asset creation, and scaling repeatable presales workflows.
Responsibilities
Own the technical sales motion for strategic APAC opportunities — from discovery and solution design through evaluation, close, and hand-off into Customer Experience.
Use construction expertise to assess reality capture programs, document pain points, and design evaluations that tie DroneDeploy to clear operational and financial outcomes.
Partner with Account Executives on technical discovery, qualification, and solution architecture for new business and expansion opportunities with defined success criteria and timelines.
Deliver sharp, tailored demos and stories for executive, technical, and field stakeholders, highlighting Unified Aerial and Ground, Automation, Inspection AI, and Survey.
Surface and mitigate technical risks early — accuracy, integrations, security, and change-management — to ensure smooth deployments at scale.
Map and support expansion paths within existing accounts (sites, workflows, products) and turn them into concrete technical plans with Sales and Customer Experience.
Build and maintain APAC-specific assets — demo projects, reference architectures, implementation checklists, evaluation templates, and ROI narratives — that others can run independently.
Collaborate with Marketing and Sales Enablement on regional webinars, DeployDays, case studies, and partner enablement to grow APAC pipeline and awareness.
Feed structured, data-backed customer insights from APAC into Product, Engineering, and GTM teams, especially around Inspection AI, Automation, Survey, and high-accuracy workflows.
Define and communicate a clear APAC SE engagement model (intake, prioritization, expectations) that enables the region to scale beyond a single SE.
Spend meaningful time on customer sites to validate capture plans, guide safe use of drones/360 cameras, and embed DroneDeploy into broader AEC and project controls workflows.
Deepen mastery of DroneDeploy’s platform and services and share that expertise through internal enablement, playbooks, and best-practice guidance.
Requirements
7+ years in a similar role (Solutions Engineer / Sales Engineer / Solutions Consultant) or in construction roles (e.g., Construction Manager, Project Manager, Project Engineer) overseeing resources, timelines, and site logistics.
Proven construction/AEC background with experience implementing or selling technology such as reality capture, project controls, BIM/VDC, or adjacent SaaS.
Experience in SaaS or deep familiarity with enterprise SaaS, including security, integrations, and change-management patterns.
Strong pre-sales or customer-facing technical experience with enterprise SaaS, including leading evaluations/POCs tied to revenue outcomes.
Drone Certification: Ability to obtain a relevant drone certification (e.g., USA Part 107 or equivalent APAC license such as Australian RePL) within 90 days and maintain it throughout tenure.
Willing and able to travel domestically and across APAC up to ~50% of the time for customers, sites, events, and internal meetings.
Exceptional communication skills, with a track record presenting complex solutions and commercial proposals to C-suite and senior executives and coaching field teams.
Demonstrated experience mentoring and guiding internal teams, partners, or customers on tools, workflows, and best practices, serving as a regional go-to expert.
Thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth, distributed environment, balancing multiple complex deals and projects with strong organization and urgency.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Comfortable working across time zones and flexing within a Monday–Friday, roughly 8:00–18:00 local window when needed for critical customer or internal sessions.
