About the Role

You’ll start by managing a small team of four engineers and be responsible for growing the team to 10+ engineers across two teams. You’ll collaborate directly with the CEO/founder on technical strategy and product priorities, while also rolling up your sleeves when needed — whether reviewing code, jumping in on urgent deadlines, or validating new ideas with quick POCs.

We strongly prefer candidates based in the Chicago area, but are open to exceptionally qualified candidates who are willing to travel to Chicago as needed.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, grow, and mentor a team of engineers across full-stack, backend, and data functions.

• Own engineering execution, delivery, and velocity.

• Collaborate directly with the CEO/founder on technical strategy and product priorities.

• Set and evolve engineering processes (e.g., planning, QA, code review, deployments).

• Architect and review systems for ingesting, processing, and serving large-scale data reliably and efficiently.

• Guide development of APIs and user-facing features built with React, Postgres, Snowflake, and AWS.

• Drive hiring for the engineering team.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including strong IC experience.

• Proven experience leading engineering teams at a high-growth startup.

• Track record of building products that people love

• Experience with data-intensive systems, APIs, and full-stack web applications.

• Excellent architectural judgment, with experience scaling systems under high load.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.

• Strong product intuition and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

• Willing to dive into code when needed, especially for POCs or critical deadlines.

• Experience with React, Python, Postgres, Snowflake, and AWS is a plus.

• Interest in energy or climate tech.
