About Matroid

With the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, more and more expert knowledge is required to use cutting edge AI techniques to solve real-world problems. At Matroid, we’re building an intuitive product that allows anyone to train and deploy computer vision (CV) models without needing to know how to write a line of code.

Founded in 2016 by a Stanford professor, Matroid has raised $33.5 million from NEA, Energize Ventures, and Intel Capital and has a broad range of customers and partners in manufacturing, aerospace, transportation, security and safety and compliance.

We are hiring our first Accounting and Finance hire at Matroid - a foundational role for someone who wants to own the finance function end-to-end, roll up their sleeves, and grow with the company. You’ll be responsible for our accounting close, budgeting, forecasting, and investor materials, while helping build scalable financial processes. Initially, you’ll partner with leadership and external accounting partners, with the opportunity to bring more work in-house and build a team as the company grows.

You’ll be working at our new office in downtown Palo Alto, just a five-minute walk from the Caltrain station.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own Matroid’s finance function end-to-end, from month-end close to year-end reporting.
  • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to guide strategic business decisions.
  • Prepare investor and board financial materials that clearly communicate our growth story.
  • Review and optimize work from external accountants and consultants.
  • Build financial models, dashboards, and reports to deliver actionable insights across the company.
  • Shape and scale Matroid’s finance systems and processes, with the opportunity to grow a team.

How you’ll be doing it

  • Record transactions, generate reports, and maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks and Excel/Sheets.
  • Review external accounting work to ensure completeness, compliance, and accuracy.
  • Track sales performance and revenue metrics in HubSpot and integrate insights into financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, operations, and leadership to gather data, validate assumptions, and provide updates.
  • Access engineering data via GitHub to support financial analysis and reporting.
  • Build and maintain financial models and reports.
  • Prepare board decks, investor updates, and presentations with supporting data.
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements, workflows, and scalable systems.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, ideally in fast-growing, tech-driven or SaaS companies.
  • Hands-on experience managing end-to-end finance functions, including month-end close, variance analysis, and financial modelling.
  • Skilled at preparing investor reporting and analyzing complex financial information to support strategic decision-making and present to executives.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Excel/Sheets, and other finance or reporting tools.
  • Self-starter with a hands-on approach, thriving in ambiguity, able to prioritize multiple responsibilities, and excited to grow the finance function over time.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical, committed to accuracy, integrity, and process improvement.

Bonus points if...

  • You have a professional certification such as CPA, CMA, or equivalent.
  • You’ve worked with HubSpot, GitHub, or other cross-collaboration tools.
  • You’ve had experience in FP&A, Corporate Development, Investment Banking, or VC/PE, giving exposure to complex financial transactions, strategic planning, and investor relations.
  • You have startup or high-growth company experience and enjoy building finance processes from scratch.

What we offer in return

  • Competitive pay and equity.
  • The chance to constantly work on stimulating intellectual challenges.
  • Gym membership reimbursement.
  • Free lunch, healthy drinks, and snacks every day.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% paid premiums.
  • A flexible schedule that leaves time for all of your other interests.
  • Resources to learn about the cutting edge of AI.
  • You’ll be working at our new office in downtown Palo Alto, just a five-minute walk from the Caltrain station.
